This week Google launched a BRAND NEW feature for Google My Business. The new ‘Posts’ feature allows business owners to post ads, updates, news and events on their local business card, which is a great way to catch the eye of potential customers before they even reach your website.

As a Web Designer/Developer, any new features from Google are always exciting. Sometimes the features are more behind-the-scenes, but this one is a pretty big change and should most definitely be utilised by your business.

The full announcement from Google was sent out by email to Webmaster subscribers.

Why is it Significant?

Google releases new stuff all the time, but for me this one could have a huge impact on click-through rates and traffic, much more so than well-written meta descriptions. The fact that a business owner can now easily post offers and events directly onto Google is a huge move in SEO.

What is Google My Business?

Google My Business is the tool offered to business owners by Google, which acts like a visual directory listing in Google Search results. It normally appears on the right hand side of search engine results pages (SERPs) when searching on a large screen.

How Do You Use It?

It’s simple to use. All you need to do is log in to Google My Business and select the ‘Posts’ option from the main menu.

Once in there, you can upload an image, a short message and a call to action, such as ‘Find Out More’ or ‘Buy Now’. That’s it! As soon as you post it, it will appear on your business card in Google.
