Hi everyone,

Here is the latest installment about SEO and how Google is working in 2015.

Despite the (still) widely believed myths that Google rankings are based on cramming keywords into your content and getting as many back-links as you can from wherever you can, that is NOT THE CASE ANY MORE! I can’t shout that loud enough!

Google in 2015 is very different to the Google of 10 years, 5 years or even 1 year ago. It is more intelligent, more popular and is bigger and better than ever. Google’s whole ethos is to return search results that are a) valid to what the user searched for, b) filled with relevent, quality content about the search term and c) websites which provide a good user experience, on all devices.

I have been harping on for about a year now about how to do well on Google. Google is not a mystery. There aren’t any secrets. Google WANTS web workers to know how to do well, in order to do well for it’s own customers.

The reason I keep talking about it though, is because there are still so many people out there who don’t understand it all. I mean, none of us will ever truly understand it ALL, because it is such a complex subject and skill to master, however, the fundamentals are quite simple and straightforward.

Anyway, let’s get to the interesting stuff that you will actually want to read! How to do well on Google (speaking purely from experience and the successes I’ve had, this can’t be interpreted as gospel!). I’m not going to list every single element in this one post. I’ll probably give you three now, then another three in a week, to give you a chance to digest it/act on it and to make sure you don’t get bored. So, here we go…

Don’t try to deceive Google with ‘black-hat’ techniques…

…it has seen them all before! For example, remember the days when people used to cram loads of keywords in LIST form into their websites, and hide the text by making it the same colour as the background? Sh*t like that.

Stick to the rules…

…Google literally tells you how to be a good. Check out it’s Webmaster Guidelines and use Google Webmaster Tools.

Ditch the silly backlinks…

…like let’s say you’ve got a website selling tropical fish, and your mates got one about computer programming, and you think it will do you both good to link to eachother. In a word, NAH. Links need to come from sites with similarities, and ones that are also favoured by Google (good quality, responsive, reputable etc). One GOOD backlink far outweighs a hundred bad ones every day of the week.

Ok, that will do for today. I hope you found that informative? I’ll stick up another three in a day or two…

Thanks for reading,

Dan
